Take a tour of the beautiful Amazonian town of Nauta, located on the Marañón River on the Peruvian Amazon, up river from Iquitos. The Marañón River is only about 7 miles (11 km) from where the Amazon River is formed. Don't miss out on touring the Mirador de Nauta and take in the breathtaking bird's eye views of the Amazon and where it's believed the Marañón, Apurimac/Ucayali, and Mantaro Rivers converge and become the main tributaries for the Amazon River. On your Amazon River cruise or tour, look for the yellow-spotted river turtle, the pirarucu fish, crocodiles, and the Arrau turtle. Consider cruising the Amazon River on a small ship cruise in order to be able to access narrower rivers, smaller coves, and hidden beaches. Contact our travel specialists to start planning your unique trip to Nauta today!

This aquatic symphony has led to the reserve's evocative moniker, the "Jungle of Mirrors."

From elusive pink river dolphins gliding through the waters to the unmistakable calls of howler monkeys echoing through the trees, this reserve is a living encyclopedia of Amazonian wildlife. Behold the playful gambols of giant river otters, the watchful eyes of caimans basking along the shores, and the vibrant hues of macaws soaring above the canopy.

It is recognized as one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, serving as a stronghold for numerous endangered and endemic species. The reserve's unique ecological zones, including flooded and terra firme forests, serve as invaluable ecosystems that contribute to the global health of the planet.
  • Cultural Heritage and Preservation: Beyond its natural wonders, Pacaya-Samiria also holds cultural significance. Indigenous communities inhabit its reaches, living in harmony with the land for generations. The reserve is a living canvas of ancient traditions, folklore, and sustainable practices that continue to shape its identity.
