Antarctica - pure awe for 19 days...
Awe -- "an overwhelming feeling of reverence, admiration, fear, etc., produced by that which is grand, sublime, extremely powerful, or the like." Yep, that sums up my ~3 weeks in and around Antarctica. Always at the top of my must-do list, I decided to stop talking about it and start living it! The following journal recounts my incredible …

Birthday Alaska Cruise!
A birthday gift to my mom and me! We decided to celebrate our 30th and 60th birthdays with a small-ship cruise to Alaska. What an amazing adventure! It was the perfect mix of our interests such as kayaking, beautiful scenery such as glaciers and such a fun way to ring in those big birthdays.

Pristine Alaska!!
A beautiful journey into the Inside Passage in Alaska. We explored Juneau, Glacier Bay National Park Headquarters and Thomas Bay. We went kayaking, hiking, whale watching, went on zodiac cruises, explored glaciers and their crystal clean ice and had a grand old time on the MS Endeavour.

This journal entry is an excerpt from my upcoming book about my travels through New Zealand. I spent nearly two months, June 7-July 27 of 2012 traveling through the North and South Islands with my brother. This particular excerpt is from a portion of the time we spent in beautiful Milford Sound.

Antarctica Voyage on Ocean Nova and Patagonia journey
We had an unbelievable vacation this winter. We made a 20 thousand mile trip across half of the world. We had 15 stops in 27 days in Argentina, Chile and at several Antarctic Islands. We crossed all three natural passages between Atlantic and Pacific oceans including the Magellan Channel, Beagle Channel and Drake Passage, and washed our hands in …

Passport to Patagonia
What a breathtakingly beautiful area Patagonia is! It is a land of contrasts: with flat arid plains around Puerto Madryn and Peninsula Valdez and its penguin colonies and Estancias, to the awesome glaciers and otherworldly rock formations of El Calafate near the central western border of Argentina. At its southernmost tip are the enormous craggy …

Antarctic on Prince Albert II
....to finally walking up the gangplank of what everybody had been anticipating for more than a year. Would it do justice to expectations? Suffice it to say at this stage that Silversea's brochure seems to thrive on British understatement.

To the end of the Earth
A journey aboard the MV Ushuaia in November, 2010. There is no way to describe Antarctica without seeing it. You come back home and everyone asks "What did you do? What did you see"? Inevitably you have to talk about the amazing penguins, the breathtaking scenery, and the incredible landscapes you see day after day. You end up talking about …

All in all, it was the …
