Day 1: Quito | Arrive in Sacha Lodge

Start your journey with a morning trip from Quito to Sacha Lodge, where the Amazon’s wonders await. Upon arrival, enjoy a delicious buffet lunch. Take some free time to relax and explore the lodge’s serene surroundings.

In the afternoon, enjoy a canoe excursion, gliding through tranquil waterways and spotting fascinating wildlife. Return to the lodge for a bird checklist session, sharing sightings and discoveries from the day. Conclude your adventure-filled day with a hearty dinner, preparing for the experiences ahead.

Day 2: Exploring the Canopy and Amazon Waters

Begin your day with an early breakfast before setting off on a morning excursion to the Canopy Walk. Marvel at panoramic views and spot vibrant wildlife high above the rainforest floor until noontime. Recharge with a buffet lunch before the next adventure.

In the afternoon, enjoy a peaceful canoe excursion, observing unique wildlife before heading out on a night excursion. The forest at night reveals a different facet of biodiversity, with various species adapted to live in low-light conditions. Many birds become active at night, utilizing their enhanced senses of hearing and sight to navigate the dark and hunt for prey. At night, the opportunity arises to observe species such as the great potoo, the crested owl, or the tawny-bellied screech owl. After dinner, wrap up the day with a bird checklist session, sharing highlights from your rainforest exploration.

Day 3: Birdwatching in Yasuni

Start the day with breakfast, fueling up for an exciting birding adventure. At 06:45, visit the Yasuní Parrot Lick to observe vibrant parrots in action. Continue to the Macaw Tree and the River Islands, spotting diverse bird species. From 10:20 to 13:00, experience the Yasuní Macaw Lick, where colorful macaws gather.

After enjoying a delectable on-site lunch, take a guided trail walk through Yasuni. Return to the lodge in the late afternoon to relax. Share the day’s sightings during the bird checklist session and savor dinner at the lodge.
 

Day 4: Adventures at Kapok Tower and Beyond

After breakfast in the morning, set out for an amazing journey to Kapok Tower, a platform constructed atop the tallest branches of a massive kapok tree. This tower is 135 ft high and presents incredible birding opportunities to spot opal-crowned tanagers, chestnut-eared aracari, or the gilded barbet. Enjoy breathtaking views and spot treetop wildlife until noon. Return to the lodge for a buffet lunch. In the afternoon, venture on a walking excursion, exploring the rainforest’s hidden wonders.

As night falls, dive into a thrilling night excursion, discovering the Amazon’s nocturnal life. Conclude the day with a hearty dinner, followed by a bird checklist session, sharing the day’s sightings.
 

Day 5: Return Home | Back to Quito

  • 1 Breakfast
Begin your final day with an early breakfast. In the morning, set out on a scenic journey back to Coca, taking in the last sights of the rainforest along the way. From there, continue your trip back to Quito, arriving at noontime.

After an easy 25-minutes flight from Quito and a two-hour journey speeding up the Napo River in a motorized canoe leaving civilization far behind, by lunchtime you will be in a hammock listening to the chatter of the tamarind monkeys.
