What to See and Do in Guayaquil, Ecuador
Quickly becoming a tourist destination in its own right, Guayaquil is Ecuador's biggest city and is a main stop en route to the country's other major destinations like the Galapagos Islands, the Amazon, and the highlands. While visiting this major metropolitan city, be sure to check out these attractions:
Malecon 2000- A two mile boardwalk with shopping, South America's first IMAX cinema, a museum in miniature of Ecuador's history, a food court, and even a small amusement park including "The Pearl" ferris wheel.
Las Penas - Climb 444 steps to the top of this promontory overlook at Santa Ana hill. Each set of steps is home to shops, bars, and cafes and the top is crowned by a small plaza that features a lighthouse and a chapel.
Tren Crucero - Departing from the neighboring town of Duran, this train is considered South America's best cruising train and offers multiple itineraries.
Cerro Blanco Tropical Dry Forest - Cerro Blanco has similar biodiversity to the rainforest, but gets comparably less rain - great for a day tour.
Parque Historico- Explore restored colonial houses and a small zoo that is open to the public free of charge (though donations are always appreciated).
