A Day in the Life of a Galapagos Cruise

A Galapagos cruise is not an endeavor to undertake if you are looking for a restful and relaxing vacation. Having done several voyages in the Polar regions, I thought I knew what an "expedition-style" cruise was. I completely underestimated how busy the crew and naturalist on board the Sirius would keep our motley crew of six. Below I have listed a full outline of what our days looked like, from start to finish. This was the schedule every day of our cruise, including upon arrival afternoon. No minute is wasted, and bed time is absolutely by 8:00 every night.

Daily Outline:
6:15am - wake up announcement over the ship radio
7:00AM - Breakfast is served, prep and change for the morning activities
8:00AM - Loading up Zodiacs to head out on morning kayak or SUP for approximately 1 hr and 40 mins.
10:00AM Back to the boat for a quick change, a snack and some tea to warm up before heading back out on the water for our next activity.
10:30: load up zodiac, head to shore landing for a hike or beach walk for an hour. Then we choose, either back to boat or those who want an "active" morning head out for a snorkel straight off the beach.
12:45- 1:45 Back to the boat for Lunch (and if you are real fast, maybe a quick power nap)
2:00PM : zodiac cruise & shore landing with 1-2 hours hiking & spoting wildlife. (occasional option to snorkel from shore or swim) or surprise afternoon activity (ceviche lesson, mixology, neptune’s visit when crossing the equator…)
5:00PM - back to the boat to shower & change before dinner - Always with a welcome from the friendly bartender who comes bearing snacks and drinks.
6:00PM - Dinner & Dessert
7:30PM - Briefing with the Naturalist guide for the next days activities, followed by prep for the morning in your cabin.
8:00PM- Snoring. Lulled to sleep by the rocking of the ship.

Repeat.
