Cartagena Food Tours

Private cooking class with a chef in Cartagena
Private cooking class with a chef in Cartagena
We return from Punta Faro in the morning and transfer to our new hotel in Cartagena, Hotel Boutique Alfíz in Old Town. This hotel dates to the 1600s and is simply an amazing experience. You can feel the history in the walls. We set out this afternoon for a street food tour with our guide for the afternoon and the next morning. He takes us around to El Sombrerón, a little shrimp cocktail place made famous for its setting a world record for the largest shrimp cocktail back in 2015. We enjoy one of their signature cocktails, or coctéles de camarones (and my goodness - it was good)! Next, we set out to taste other typical street food in Cartagena, including arepas, empanadas, carimañolas, and batidos (smoothies) made with real fruits and juices. After our tummies are too full to eat more, we return to our hotel in Old Town Cartagena. This evening a special surprise has been arranged, dinner at the Celele Restaurante, a renowned restaurant with a typical 4-month waitlist for reservations. We enjoy a fancy dinner this evening before returning for the evening.

The next morning, we set out with the same guide for a private cooking class with a private chef. We make ceviche, patacones, a fruit flan of sorts, and grilled fish and rice along with a batido with juices. The experience was so rewarding and my 13-year old and myself enjoyed our own cooked meal better than most things we had eaten to this point! What a great way to finish the trip. After the cooking class, we transfer to the airport where we fly home.
