The Five Sisters Falls and Eco-Lodge is located in the scenic Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve. This is the largest protected area in Belize, boasting an immense Rain Forest and natural Wildlife Sanctuary. The Five Sisters Lodge obtained it's name from the five perfectly gushing waterfalls and the numerous crystal pools that form part of this natural wonder. These waterfalls empty into the famous Privassion River, which meanders through the heart of the Forest Reserve.
The sparkling, clear water of the river, the shimmering spray of the falls and the contrasting green of the forest are accentuated by a wild display of colorful flowers of over four hundred and fifty species of orchids, palmettos and other exotic plants. The continuos flowering of these plants throughout the year produces nature's own kaleidoscope of brilliant colours and the crisp air is always heavy with a fragrant, exciting aroma.
Carlos Popper, Belizean born, commenced his Five Sisters Lodge in 1991. His dream was to create an eco-tourism facility that he could share with the rest of the world. Inspired by the natural beauty of his property, he set out to design his lodge with one clear objective: to provide sustainable architecture in harmony with the natural world that surrounds us. This he has accomplished with excellence.
Since Five Sisters Falls & Eco-lodge opened in 1995, it has been a popular escape for ecotourists and nature lovers. Being situated on ten acres of privately titled land in the midst of the national reserve, you can truly get away from it all here.
Facilities
The lodge consists of 14 cabanas of varied size, each opening onto screened verandas with Accommodations at Five Sisters Ecolodge, Mountain Pine Ridge, Belizewonderful views, and a hammock. All cabanas are well screened, and mosquito netting is provided over the beds, although we didn't find it necessary to use it. The attractive, sparkling clean rooms have hardwood floors, and the locally crafted furnishings are basic, but adequate. The Lodge has a unique, wood-burning boiler system to heat its water. Our showers were not necessarily hot, but warm enough to be comfortable. The deck around the building permits you to enjoy your drinks and meals while taking in the pristine beauty of your surroundings. The kitchen serves plenty of tasty, local cuisine, and homemade bread.
Nature
The natural vegetation has been supplemented nicely with a wide variety of colourful, tropical plants, and this, combined with neat pathways, makes for an attractive setting under the pines. The treetops are alive with bird activity, and bird watchers will enjoy adding species unique to this habitat, such as the Acorn Woodpecker, to their sightings list. You'll also see some of the regulars; orioles, oropendolas, and kites.
After a fun filled day out, you can relax in a romantic atmosphere in a lamp lit dining room and enjoy mouthwatering Belizean and International cuisine, specially prepared by our professional staff. Our staff has been carefully trained to provide you with the best service and make your stay with us a memorable experience.
Guests will also enjoy swimming in the small pools at the base of the falls, where there is a sandy beach, and a couple of thatched palapas providing shade. Everyone should go down to the falls at least once, but be prepared for the steep return trip up the steps!
There is a nature trail on the property with numerous medicinal plants and trees identified. Mountain bikes are available, too.
The overall effect of Five Sisters Falls & Eco-lodge is that of a mountain cabin retreat. It offers a true Belizean experience with genuine local hospitality. Don't forget to schedule time to relax and enjoy the beauty. The peaceful sound of the falls will lull you to sleep, and stay with you after you leave.
