Day 1: Huallatakunka Full Day Trek

  • 1 Lunch
After breakfast, you will be picked up from your Cusco hotel and drive through the South Valley.  Along the way, you will stop in the town of Oropesa to visit a local bakery.  Have some time to see how traditional breads have been made for generations.  Continue the journey to Checacupe town where you will visit the local church and a colonial bridge.

During the drive you will see beautiful adobe houses, heards of llamas and alpacas, and gorgeous landscapes.  Once you reach Huallatakunka pass, you will start the 3 hour ascent.  This hike passes along a geological formation that forms a wall, as well as through a rock forest.  Stop for a picnic to enjoy your lunch while taking in panoramic views of red and rainbow mountains, as well as the Ausangate (the highest mountain of Cusco).

On the drive back to Cusco, you will stop in the Pinipampa community that is known for making roof tiles.  Meet some of the residents and learn more about their craft.  Arrive back at your hotel in Cusco at approximately 5:00 PM.

Kate was great to work with in the planning stage. She was prompt, helpful, and efficient. Our tour guide, Edwin, was knowledgeable and passionate. We were very happy to have traveled with Adventure Life, it made the trip easy and a true pleasure. We could concentrate on enjoying the experience rather than the details of travel.
