Highlights
Go to an oxbow lake to look for a giant otter family
Moderately active but not overly strenuous. This level includes activities like casual cycling, yoga, or excursions/activities that typically last 3-5 hours total each day.
Early this morning you will be picked up from your hotel in Puerto Maldonado and be transferred to the Santa Rosa Village. Cross the Inambari river to Puerto Carlos. From there you will be driven to Boca Colorado and then take a boat ride up the Madre de Dios river to arrive at the Manu Wildlife Center.
Explore some of the forest trails that surround the lodge. You have an excellent chance of encountering some of the 12 species of monkeys, including the spider monkey and emperor tamarin. Arrive at the Macaw Clay Lick project. In groups of two or three the scarlet macaws come flapping in, landing on the treetops. There is a convenient place for you to sit to watch this spectacle.
In the afternoon, continue to explore and discover the rainforest by going to at Canopy Tower. On its platform you will witness the frantic rush-hour activity of twilight in the rainforest canopy. Start on the Collpa Trail to go to the lodge's famous Tapir Clay Lick. This is the most active tapir lick in the entire Amazon. The lick features a roomy, elevated observation platform so you can see these shy creatures close up.
Set off early to visit an oxbow lake. While on the lake you may encounter a giant otter family, a troop of monkeys, sun grebes, anhinga and osprey. Among the bushes along the water line hoatzins, woodpeckers, tanagers, macaws, toucans and parakeets can be seen swooping in and out of the trees.
After lunch your guide can lead you on freewheeling expeditions in search of further wildlife encounters. You may also adventure off on one of the lodge's many trails. In the evening there is an opportunity to search for the caiman and other nocturnal life along the riverbank by boat.

Good to ideal period to travel, and many people choose to visit at this time.
Kate was great to work with in the planning stage. She was prompt, helpful, and efficient. Our tour guide, Edwin, was knowledgeable and passionate. We were very happy to have traveled with Adventure Life, it made the trip easy and a true pleasure. We could concentrate on enjoying the experience rather than the details of travel.
