A safari to Namibia offers travelers a chance to experience a wild, untouched region of Africa seen by very few explorers. This vast country is covered with dramatic landscapes, ancient intact cultures, and amazing game viewing opportunities. It is an 'ageless land,' visible through the heritage of rock art created by stone-age artists and geological attractions such as the petrified forest of Khorixas where fossilized tree trunks have lain for over 280 million years. You can visit the ship remains on the Skeleton Coast, track Rhinos on foot in the Palmwag Concession, or rev an ATV on the sand dunes in Sossusvlei, on one of our Namibia tour packages. However you choose to spend your time, Adventure Life's Namibia safari experts will help you the perfect Namibia tour for your particular interests, needs, and budget.

Tips & Travel Guide for Namibia Safaris

Must-See Destinations on a Namibia Safari

On the southwestern coast of Africa, this small nation is home to a great wealth of savanna animals, including zebras, kudus, giraffes, lions, elephants, honey badgers, and warthogs. But among all of the majestic beasts that call these plains their home are two that stand out: the cheetah & the rhinoceros. As you trek & ride across the vast deserts, keep your eyes open for these mighty creatures. Watching a stealthy cheetah stalking its prey is a once in a lifetime experience, and the Desert Rhino Camp at the Palmwag Concession is a sight to behold.

Continue your safari with explorations of Damaraland & Etosha National Park, where a shallow lake once filled the basin over three million years ago, thus giving the park its name, which literally translates to the "Land of Dry Water."

Other popular destinations in Namibia are the dunes at Sossusvlei, Deadvlei, and the surrounding area. These mammoth sand dunes will challenge you to see if you can harness your iron will and make the arduous climb to the top. Afterward, you might be able to explore the impressive canyons of Namib Naukluft National Park on a hot-air balloon tour.

  • Originally a colony of Germany, it was captured by South Africa in WWI and only gained independence in 1990.

  • Namibia is home to massive sand dunes and a fair number of people have taken up sand boarding as a sport.

Best Time to Do a Namibia Safari

May to October are the best months to visit Namibia on safari, but it can be a great destination at any point during the year.

These peak months are the dry season in Namibia, which is when the animals can be spotted in large numbers around waterways – it’s also the southern winter, so temperatures tend to be cooler and more comfortable making for the ultimate Namibia safari experience.

How much does a Namibia safari cost?

Adventure Life Namibia tour packages start at $4,182 to $10,433 for a 9- to 14-day  itinerary. Prices for Namibia tours depend on how long your trip is, what activities are included, and where you want to go.

Is it safe to travel to Namibia in 2025

Namibia's low crime rate is one more reason to visit the country. Windhoek, Namibia's capital and one of the continent's safest cities, is more rural and intimate than cosmopolitan.

Non-violent crimes including pickpocketing, purse snatching, and vehicle theft are the most common in Namibia. Do not leave valuables in parked cars; keep your bags safe and out of sight; and be vigilant of anyone following you at all times, as common sense dictates.

Namibia self-drive safety

Be careful if you've rented a car in Namibia. Driving at night outside cities is hazardous due to unlit roads and animals crossing highways. Outside Windhoek, attempt to arrive before dark.

All your FAQs About Namibia

Do I need a visa to travel to Namibia?
To travel to Namibia, you will need a tourist visa, which can be obtained at your port of entry, and a passport valid for at least 6 months.

What is internet access like in Namibia?
The Adventure Life tours of Namibia tend to be in the more isolated areas of the country where the already-scarce internet is even less common. You should not expect to connect other than temporary periods of time in airports, nicer hotels, or restaurants (but even then it is not a guarantee).
Can I use my cell phone while in Namibia?
You can purchase a local SIM chip for your phone at the airport upon arrival, but it might not serve you much since many of our tours are safaris that go into pretty isolated parts of the country where there will not be a signal.

Do I need power adapters?
Namibia has Type D power sockets and 220-240v power, so if you have a 110v device that is not compatible with other voltages, you will not only require a plug adapter but also a step-down converter.
What are the toilets like in Namibia?
Even though much of Namibia has squat toilets, you will find that the lodges and camps that we have chosen do offer comfortable western style bowl toilets. Don't flush toilet paper, instead toss it in the garbage by the toilet.

Can I drink the water in Namibia?
Do not drink the tap water in Namibia - instead fill your bottles with the filtered water or drink the bottled water that your tour operator provides.
Are credit cards accepted in Namibia? Will I be able to find ATMs?
You probably won't be able to find too many ATMs or credit-card-accepting businesses on your Namibia expedition, but since the tour is all-inclusive you only really need cash for any souvenirs or tips, which you can easily take out when you get to the airport.
Should I purchase travel insurance?
You should definitely purchase travel insurance, and we make it easy through TravelGuard on our Once You're Booked page.
Is tipping customary in Namibia?
You can tip 10% at restaurants for exceptional service, but it is by no means an expectation. You should tip your guides around $10+. There is not a very well established service industry here, but tips are always appreciated.
