Day 2: Bamberg

Enjoy breakfast as you cruise through the engineering marvel known as the Main-Danube Canal, which traverses the Alps via 16 locks. Arrive in Bamberg and enjoy a walking tour of this medieval gem, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Disembark for a guided walking tour and see its cathedral, Old Town Hall and elegant old mansions. Alternatively, you may choose to sample some of Bamberg’s famous smoked beer or enjoy a guided bike tour along the Main River. The ship departs this evening and cruises overnight.

Or admire its crown jewel, the Baroque Residenz Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that features an opulent interior, including a grand fresco by Tiepolo. As an alternative, hike up to Marienberg Fortress, dating back to the 13th century, and overlooking the Main. You may also head to picturesque Rothenburg on the “Romantic Road,” known for its well-preserved medieval Old Town.

Day 4: Wertheim

Welcome to Wertheim, a quaint German town known for its intricate glassworks and charming medieval architecture. You have your choice of one of three excursions today. You have your option of enjoying a guided walking tour of the historic city center, a guided bike tour along the Main River, or a visit to a local bakery for a pretzel tasting. After lunch, the ship cruises towards Mainz.

This was our first trip to South America and we were a little nervous. But Adventure Life made things so easy! All our questions were answered before we left, and our guide, Vidal, was amazing! He gave us enough space to explore without rushing us along. He also knew where the best picture taking opportunities were, which was great.
