Strolling into the main entrance of Old Town Dubrovnik, it readily became apparent that I should start watching Game of Thrones. Not only was the merchandise everywhere, but Dubrovnik does have such a fairytale feel that I could understand why many of the episodes were filmed there. We took a brief walk through Old Town and, in our now standard midsummer approach, soon found ourselves drenched and in search of water.
Google suggested nearby Banje beach, only a few hundred yards from the main square. City beaches are rarely fantastic, but at this point anything with cold water was inviting. As it turned out, Banje Beach was actually quite beautiful. It's a small slice of golden beach sandwiched just outside the city walls. As such, the views around the beach were stunning. Crystal blue waters surrounded by towering medieval stone walls. We were impressed!
Refreshed we returned to the city in the early evening for a walk along the city walls. Views were gorgeous on the 2 km walk all around the city. Though there's an added cost, it's a wonderful way to see Dubrovnik away from the crowds below.

(1) great information on the website and throughout all the "materials." (2) Jane Packer is great: knowledgeable, responsive, takes a personal interest and tone, seems to care about the customer as a person not a sale.
