Day 1: Arrive Salvador de Bahia

Arrive at the airport in Salvador, meet up with your guide, and transfer to your hotel just outside of Pelourinho, the historic city center. This particular district is a mosaic of cobbled alleyways and colonial buildings, the perfect home-base for your visit to vibrant Salvador de Bahia. Settle into your hotel and enjoy dinner and a free evening in Pelourinho.

Day 2: Tour Salvador

After breakfast this morning, embark on a guided city tour of Salvador intentionally designed to acquaint you with Salvadorian life, the Vida Bahia. The city represents a fusion of Portuguese, African, and indigenous culture, a rich heritage that manifests itself in all facets of local activity. Salvador, established in the 16th century, was the first capital of Brazil. Its colonial foundation was built upon in the Renaissance period, elements of both remaining well-preserved in the layout and architecture of the historic city center. Throughout your tour, peruse the lively stalls of the market of Sao Joaquim, stroll through Salvador's iconic streets as you learn about its important role in Brazilian history, and immerse yourself in the ambient Afro-Brazilian culture, music, art, and gastronomy.

In the afternoon, chose between a variety of activities available in town. Take part in tours designed to provide insight into the historical perspective of Pelourinho's various people groups, especially the plight of the African inhabitants brought over during the slave trade to work on Brazil's sugar plantations.

After a full day of touring, spend the evening relaxing and dining on your own.

Day 3: Salvador Free Day

Today is a free day to spend on your own or to participate in an optional guided excursion. Set off on a tour of the spectacular coastal region surrounding Salvador, and visit picturesque white sand beaches in Costa dos Coqueiros and Costa Dende, soaking in the sun, surf, and culture of the Brazilian beach scene. Choose to tour the artisan workshops of central Salvador and gain insight into Salvadorian life by attending various cultural, artistic, or religious events, which take place regularly throughout the city.

Day 4: Depart Salvador de Bahia

  • 1 Breakfast
After breakfast at your hotel, transfer back to the Salvador airport for the next leg of your Brazil vacation.
