We like to immerse our kids in experiences and one of our traditions is to celebrate a highschool graduation with a travel adventure. This time was Samuel’s turn and he had a simple request to have some beach fun. My first thought was naturally Belize, where we can balance out a little jungle exploration with relaxing beach days.
Welcome to Black Rock Lodge (Aaron Conway)The nearest airport to us is not a major hub, and because of this our travel days tend to start a little early. This adventure began when we departed our house at 4:30 am. With a quick layover in Dallas we make it to Belize City at around 2:30 pm. It is nice that Belize is in the same timezone as home so that we didn’t have to accommodate the effects of jetlag. After making our way through customs we were greeted by our transfer to Black Rock Lodge. The 2 hour drive weaved through the Belizean countryside and we watched the changes in flora outside our window. Black Rock Lodge is nestled amongst densely forested mountains and next to the Macal river.
When we arrived at the lodge we were greeted with freshly squeezed mango juice and given a quick overview of what to expect for the next couple of days. After the introduction we are taken to our riverside cabana, settle in, have our dinner in the open air restaurant, and finally rest from our long day.
