The point of departure for most Antarctic flight-cruises, King George Island is among the most highly populated regions in Antarctica and has one of the most heavily trafficked airports.  Because it is so accessible to South America, over 11 different countries, including Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Russia, South Korea, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay, Poland, Germany, and the US have research stations there. Teniente R. Marsh Airport is managed by Chile and flights arrive to and from Punta Arenas in Patagonia. It is the only airport in Antarctica which has an IATA code because it is served by public flights. Although there are no regularly scheduled public flights to the airport, the Chilean DAP Airlines flies frequently, transporting travelers to their Antarctic cruise ships and back to Punta Arenas.
