You can give the waiter around a dollar, the hotel porters around a dollar per bag, a dollar for taxi drivers, five dollars for personal chauffers, and between $15-20/day for a private guide.
Internet throughout Cambodia is relatively widespread and reliable, and WiFi is increasingly prevalent. You can count on having internet in the major cities and developed parts of the country, but as you get into the more isolated parts of the country, you probably won't be able to find access.
It's likely that you will be out of range of cell towers for the majority of your trip in Cambodia, but if you have a GSM-capable phone then you can also ask your service provider to unlock it so that you can purchase a SIM chip once you arrive and access the local network. Connecting to WiFi or purchasing an international plan from your provider might also be options for you.
You will either encounter plugs that are type A (US-style two flat prongs), C (European style two round prongs), or G (three flat prongs that are set on a triangle base). Power is 230v, but most US 110v appliances don't require a power converter.
Toilets throughout Asia, especially in the less developed countries, tend to be squat style toilets that require you to bring your own toilet paper. The hotels and ships will feature bowl toilets, but in all restrooms, it's necessary that you throw the toilet paper in the wastebasket and not the toilet itself.
While you cannot drink the tap water in Cambodia, we make sure that you always have access to clean bottled or purified drinking water.
Each year, credit and debit cards and ATMs are becoming more popular and widely used throughout Cambodia. Most tourist destinations accept credit cards and have accessible ATMs. Almost all tourism businesses and an increasing number of mid-range businesses accept cards as well. Of course, once you head towards the more isolated parts of the country, it is not as common to find ATMs or vendors that accept cards.
Probably! While it's not a necessary expense, we always recommend that you travel with insurance. TravelGuard offers several comprehensive options. Read more on our Once You're Booked page.
