Begin your 4-day Cambodian adventure at Cardamom Tented Camps with a boat ride up the Preak Tachan River. Nestled in the Cardamom Mountains, this eco-friendly lodge offers nine luxurious glamping tents within an 18,000-hectare concession that connects pristine lowland and coastal habitats. Since Botum Sakor National Park's establishment in 1993, the area has faced threats from illegal logging and land encroachment. Join Wildlife Alliance Rangers for a morning patrol through the forest, visit the Ranger Station to see confiscated snares, and share a local Khmer lunch. Relax, swim, kayak along the river, and explore trails,  while learning about the conservation of this protected area. This meaningful and educational experience keeps the protection of the environment as the key goal of the project.

Day 1: Transfer to Trapean Rung | Boat trip up the Preak Tachan River to Cardamom Tented Camp

Your adventure starts with a transfer to Trapeang Rung (transfer duration depends on the starting location). Enjoy the stunning landscapes as you unwind during the journey. Along the way, there will be an opportunity to take a break, grab a coffee, and enjoy a light meal (paid on arrival)) to recharge and prepare for the adventures ahead.

After refreshing at the lodge's lounge in Trapeang Rung, get ready for an exciting one-hour boat journey heading to Cardamom Tented Camp. Along the serene Preak Tachan River, expect encounters with playful monkeys, vibrant birds, and majestic eagles soaring above mangrove forests. Upon reaching Cardamom Tented Camp located within the rainforest, you'll receive a warm welcome and be escorted to your cozy safari-style tent.

Cardamom Tented Camp is nestled in Botum Sakor National Park, a diverse eco-hub with mangrove forests, beaches, and rainforests, located on a peninsula northwest of the Gulf of Kompong Som from Sihanoukville. These diverse habitats support a variety of wildlife species, such as Asian elephants, fishing cats, pangolins, slow lorises, sun bears, hog badgers, and hog deer.

The conservation of this ecosystem faces challenges with a significant portion under threat from commercial developments.  In collaboration with organizations like the Wildlife Alliance, initiatives such as the Southern Cardamom Forest Protection Program are fundamental in addressing these threats. Your visit to Cardamom Tented Campscan provides hope for sustainable tourism and environmental conservation. By backing these initiatives, you not only enhance your own experience but also play a crucial role in protecting this vital ecosystem for future generations.

Day 2: Ranger Station | Preak Tachan (Hiking and Kayaking)

Your second day begins with an early breakfast to fuel you up for the adventures ahead. Take the opportunity to join Wildlife Alliance rangers and an English-speaking guide on a patrol. Together you explore abandoned poaching and logging trails, keeping a sharp lookout for elusive wildlife hidden within the forest. Inside Botum Sakor National Park you may spot Asian elephants, Sunda pangolins, Pileated gibbons, slow loris, Sun bears, Clouded leopards, otters, Germain’s langurs, or deer.

The journey continues as you visit the ranger station, where confiscated snares and traps are showcased. This visit offers an insight into the tireless efforts in the ongoing struggle against wildlife trafficking. Learn firsthand about the challenges faced and the crucial work being done to protect the local wildlife.

After an enriching morning, it's time to refuel with a hearty Khmer lunch. Once done, the afternoon offers a range of leisure activities by the river. You can choose to relax by the water's edge, take a refreshing swim in the river's cool waters, or opt for a kayak adventure along the tranquil currents. As you paddle, keep your eyes peeled for monkeys swinging from the trees and colorful exotic birds such as White-winged wood duck, Green peafowl, Lesser adjutant, Oriental darter, Great pied hornbill, and Grey-headed fish eagle thriving in their natural habitat.

Day 3: Cardamom Tented Camp

You have the chance to spend another full day enjoying the jungle at your own pace. You can opt to stroll the short trails on the property, unwind on the floating pier, birdwatch with binoculars on the premises, or simply absorb the natural beauty of your surroundings. The day is free for you to spend as you prefer. Kayaks are available for a leisurely paddle to explore the river as well.

If you are seeking an extra dose of adventure, the option to join an additional patrol with the Wildlife Alliance rangers is available, offering insights into their conservation efforts and a chance to witness their work firsthand.

This was my first experience with Adventure Life - and I couldn't have been more pleased with the trip. The guides and local staff in both Buenos Aires and Uruguay were terrific - extremely helpful and accommodating. I really enjoyed meeting the friendly staff in Buenos Aires in person (I left my bags with them for the afternoon).
