Located across the river from Gonarezhou National Park, Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge offers its guests a game-viewing experience not to be duplicated in Zimbabwe in comfortable accommodations in which to recount the day's adventures.

​Take advantage of of a drink at sunset around the fire pit and the spectacular view of the year-round river trench which attracts elephants, crocodiles, hippos, and other wildlife.

Simple yet elegant, the luxury king and twin lodge accommodations offer private balcony, ensuite bathroom with spacious shower, mini-bar, hand-crafted headboards, and high-count cotton bedding. The main lodge is made of stone, thatch and wood and blends into the natural surroundings. Outdoor deck areas offer a spacious viewing area to the Save River and across into Gonarezhou National Park.

For those desiring to venture out into Gonarezhou National Park for an overnight outing, spend a night or two at the more rustic Mahove Tent Camp or Nhambo self-catered lodge.

Activities at Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge

Culture & Community - Visit the local Shangaan community at Mahenye village. Learn about the culture, experience their dance and arts, and visit the local school and clinic.

Chilojo Cliffs - Explore the red sandstone cliffs in the heart of Gonarezhou National Park (available during dry season only May - Nov). Visit Tembahata and Machanu pans which attract prolific birdlife, and large herds of elephant and buffalo.

Gonarezhou National Park Safari - As the second largest park in Zimbabwe, Gonarezhou National Park is largely undiscovered to the outside world and offers a variety of habitat and pristine game-viewing opportunities. Some of the game spotted include: hippo, wild dog, elephant, hyena, lion, cheetah and giraffe. The park is foremost known as the "Land of the Elephant" which number in the thousands.

Chivalila Falls - For those looking for something more active, hike through rugged landscape on a 2.5 km walking trail to the nearby falls. 

Birdwatching - Between the three rivers, Chilojo Cliffs, and many pans in the region, Gonarezhou is one of southern Africa's prime bird-viewing destinations. Over 400 species have been recorded here, including Kingfishers, Hornbills, Eagles and Raptors.
