Chula Island Camp is a stunning tented camp with all the luxuries one could wish for, but with the charm and ethos of a true seasonal bush camp. With just 5 guest tents, catering for no more than 10 people in camp at once - each tent is carefully and expertly located for the best possible views across the Zambezi River. The Chula tents are bespoke and very comfortable, with high-quality linen and mattresses, alongside flushing toilets, running water taps and traditional bucket-showers! A main area stretch-canvas tent set beneath massive Natal Mahogany trees makes for an exceptional location for meals, reading, charging cameras and wildlife watching.
Simply put, the Lower Zambezi has some of the finest big game wildlife viewing in Africa. This, coupled with the variety of safari activities on offer and the aesthetics of this park, makes for a truly fantastic wildlife spectacle. High densities of elephants gather on the valley floor as the dry season commences, along with large herds of buffalo and impala. In attendance are all of the large predators one might expect, with lion, leopard and wild dog very well represented here. The only notable omission might be the giraffe, but a night-time safari scouting for honey badger and aardvark should help you forget about our long-necked friends!
With the broadest possible spectrum of safari activities on offer, our camps in the Lower Zambezi are ideal for each and every safari-goer. We are specialists in walking and canoe-based safaris, with a high caliber of qualified guides (in Zambia guides are professional, and accredited to the same standard as school teachers). We also offer game drives, both day and night, alongside boat-based safaris and even angling for those interested in trying their hand at landing the world-famous Tigerfish! Photography is a passion of ours as a company and our guiding team are experts in light, angles and of course wildlife behavior and anticipation.

Activities
Canoe Safari
A quintessentially Zambezian safari pursuit - the canoe! Highly qualified guides lead trips along some of the most tranquil and picturesque channels, getting close to creatures big and small, in silence
Game Drives
Game drives are a sure bet for wildlife photographers, allowing you to get closer and cover greater distances. We have a modest road network, shared by few other vehicles, allowing us to maximize game viewing opportunities whilst also preserving the different habitats and leaving great expanses
Boat Safari
Boating is a stunning way to experience the mighty Zambezi River; this vast and dramatic waterbody never fails to impress, with its crystal clear perennial waters drawing in boundless wildlife and a stunning array of birds.
River Lunch
A very special and unique experience - lunchtime with your toes dipped into the cool waters of the Zambezi! Watch hippos cruise past as you tuck into your tasty BBQ lunch and cold drinks
Walking Safari
Walking is best in the morning when temperatures are cool and tracks and signs are fresh! Walks are tailored to suit, but are typically a gentle amble through the bush. This allows you to experience the smaller, more intricate things that might be missed from a vehicle.
Tiger Fishing
The Zambezi is home to what is regarded as the finest freshwater angling fish out there, the Tigerfish! There is nothing quite like trying your luck and hooking the fish of a lifetime in the company of hippos and elephants.
Inquire
Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!
