Reykjavik, Iceland's vibrant capital, is a city of contrasts, where modernity meets ancient Viking heritage. From its iconic cathedral to hidden culinary gems, thrilling FlyOver excursions to serene coastal walks, this charming city offers a myriad of experiences that will leave you in awe. Join us on a virtual tour as we explore some of Reykjavik's highlights, including a surprise encounter on our last night that will make it truly unforgettable.
Our journey begins at the impressive Hallgrímskirkja, the iconic cathedral that towers over Reykjavik's skyline. Its distinctive, modernist architecture is a testament to Iceland's unique aesthetic. Take the elevator ride to the top for a panoramic view of the city, complete with colorful rooftops, the glistening sea, and distant mountains. It's a sight that will leave you breathless.
After descending from the heights of Hallgrímskirkja, satisfy your appetite with a visit to the famous Viking hot dog stand, Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur. These hot dogs are not your average fast food; they're crafted with a blend of lamb, beef, and pork, and come topped with crispy onions, remoulade, and mustard. Locals and tourists alike flock here for this delicious taste of Icelandic street food culture.
For an adrenaline-pumping adventure, head to FlyOver Iceland, an immersive flying experience that takes you on a virtual journey across the island. As you don your flight gear and strap into the ride, you'll soar over glaciers, volcanoes, and waterfalls, immersing yourself in Iceland's breathtaking landscapes. It's an exhilarating way to witness the country's natural wonders without leaving the city.
As the day winds down, take a leisurely walk along the Reykjavik coastline. The city's picturesque waterfront offers a peaceful escape from the urban bustle. Marvel at the sculptural Sun Voyager, an ode to the sun and the promise of new, uncharted territories. Along the way, you'll also encounter charming cafes and art installations that add to the city's charm.
But our adventure doesn't end there. On our last night in Reykjavik, as we wander through the city streets, we stumble upon a hidden gem—a library that's also a bar. As we step inside, we're greeted by the warm, inviting atmosphere, book-lined shelves, and the tantalizing aroma of craft cocktails. But what truly makes this discovery magical is the live music that fills the air. Talented local musicians create a soul-stirring ambiance with their melodies. We settle into a cozy corner, sipping cocktails, and allowing the music to wash over us. It's the perfect way to end our Reykjavik adventure, surrounded by the harmonious blend of literature, libations, and live tunes.
Reykjavik is a city that seamlessly blends its rich history with contemporary experiences. Whether you're gazing from the heights of Hallgrímskirkja, savoring a Viking hot dog, soaring over Iceland's landscapes, strolling along the tranquil coastline, or stumbling upon unexpected treasures like the library bar with live music, you'll find that Reykjavik has something for every traveler. It's a city that invites you to explore, savor, and be captivated by its many wonders, even on your last night. So, when you find yourself in Reykjavik, embrace the unexpected and let the city's charm leave an indelible mark on your heart.

I've worked with Adventure Life before in planning trips and appreciate the quality of trips they put together. They use knowledgeable local guides, comfortable lodgings, and assist with transportation. I find trip planning stressful, so am happy to turn it over to them. They work within our parameters of time, budget, activity level, and types of activities to give us great experiences!

We have been working with Adventure Life for 5 years now and it is very easy to plan out our trips. Our holidays include customization of activities and side trips along with the standard packages available on the Adventure Life website. Kevin, Jess, Mary Rose and their teams have many recommendations that have enhanced our travel.

We went to the Patagonia on the Chile side and Perito Moreno in El Calafate, Argentina. Eric of San Diego handled our trip with expertise. The preparation went smoothly, despite some changes on our part with scheduling conflicts. He offered great advice which made us feel at ease with all decisions on the trip. It was truly a great experience.
