Quito Hotels

Over my multiple trips in and out of Quito, I have stayed in a handful of different areas…

            -  There are the properties that are part of the airport complex itself.  Cookie-cutter, lacking in identity, but utilitarian.  Great for late arrivals and early departures, when there isn’t really time to explore anyways.

            -  There are the haciendas, homesteads and hotel complexes that are 10-20 minutes from the airport, with their own identity and history that pre-dates the airport.  Places like Hacienda La Jimenita, a quiet, rural property tucked along the edge of a canyon… with its own set of trails, hummingbird feeders, and views of distant hillsides and volcanos.  This property makes sense for wildlife and nature fans with any sort of daylight time to explore - either on arrival afternoon or departure morning.  It is also a great option for folks who want to build in a full day around the outskirts of the city, but might be daunted by staying at a downtown hotel.

            -  There are the smaller, boutique hotels in Quito’s downtown areas.  These would be places like Patio Andaluz, Casona de la Ronda and the luxury-level Casa Gangotena - all in the old colonial district.  These in particular are walking distance to restaurants, public squares, cathedrals and other points of interest.  Further boutique hotels exist in the La Mariscal and La Floresta neighborhoods, north and east of the Old Town.

            -  There are the more modern hotels, many of them international chain hotels, in the more modern downtown areas of Quito.  Some of these - like the Go Quito Hotel, Le Parc and the Wyndham - will be in the streets and neighborhoods surrounding Parque Carolina and its botanical gardens.  Others - like the Swissotel and JW Marriott - will be in or near the La Mariscal and La Floresta neighborhoods, halfway between La Carolina and Quito’s historical center.

The best area, and the best hotel for you… well, that will depend on when you arrive, how long you’ll be staying, what you want to see while in Quito, and how comfortable you are in the big city.  Thank goodness, we can help!
