Getting into the Canopy at Sacha Lodge

The absolute best thing about Sacha Lodge - even better than being able to escape into the air conditioning on a hot afternoon - is the ability to get into and above the forest canopy in multiple different ways.  In fact, Sacha Lodge has four different ways to get you up there, which is the most of any lodge in the Amazon.

           -   The Canopy Walk: This sturdy suspension bridge spans 940 feet between three strong metal towers, high in the rainforest canopy - 94 feet above the ground. As you climb the stairs to the top, you’ll climb past a slew of bird species, potentially some monkeys, and untold numbers of epiphytes.  As you walk across the twin bridges, you’ll be looking down at the tops of the trees, spotting more than a few colorful birds and, if you look really close, a few that are masterful artists of camouflage, like the Potoo or “ghost bird”.  It looks, even when you are staring straight at it, like a dead branch.

         -   The Kapok Tower: Hugging a giant kapok tree 135 feet above the rainforest floor, this double-platform puts you right in the heart of the wildlife action. Branches the size of most normal tree trunks sit next to you at this height, with epiphytes and birds galore.  For a breathtaking panoramic view of the canopy, climb one staircase higher onto the crow’s nest and take in the rainforest in 360-degrees. Its height and perspective has earned it a reputation as one of the best canopy observation towers in the entire Amazon jungle.

        -   Canopy Exploration Crane: An open-air gondola suspended from a 360-degree rotating crane, allowing guests to access multiple canopy levels without physical exertion.  The crane operator, the guide and yourself… enjoying 360-degree views like you wouldn’t believe.

        -   Original Canopy Tower:  A metal tower reaching just to the upper limits of the canopy, but not beyond, puts you right at eye level with all those birds and monkeys that make this forest home.  Even if you can’t see them through the thick and verdant foliage, you will be sure to hear their cacophonous chorus.
