London-based merchant Anthony de la Roche is credited with the first sighting of South Georgia (by European explorers) in 1675. Early maps referred to it as "Roche Island." The famous Captain James Cook was the first documented explorer to land on the island, in 1775. He called the island "not worth discovering," but mapped and surveyed it anyway.

We saw icebergs and glaciers while kayaking the seas of this beautiful place. Also, we saw a lot of wildlife such as whales, fur seals and most importantly.. PENGUINS!
