Enjoy white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and pure relaxation. Spend your days by the ocean, exploring the resort amenities, or enjoying sunsets. This trip offers a mix of history, culture, and leisure, ideal for couples, families, or anyone seeking a well-rounded experience.
Moderately active but not overly strenuous. This level includes activities like casual cycling, yoga, or excursions/activities that typically last 3-5 hours total each day.
Ayubowan! Welcome to Sri Lanka! Upon arrival in Colombo, complete the immigration process, collect your luggage, and head to the arrival lobby. Here you'll meet your guide, who will accompany you throughout your trip.
Transfer to Hunumulla, where you can check in at the hotel and relax at Ambarella Lodge.
Nestled within the working Kotaliyadde Coconut Estate, Ambarella Lodge offers an authentic introduction to Sri Lankan culture. Surrounded by lush coconut groves, the fresh night air and serene landscape create a truly refreshing atmosphere. The inviting pool provides the perfect way to unwind and cool off after exploring the nearby area.
In the afternoon, stretch your legs on a hike to Pidurangala Rock to experience breathtaking sunset views—weather permitting. This ancient site is believed to have been a royal temple during King Kashyapa’s reign. The hike typically takes about one hour, depending on fitness level. The final section involves climbing over rocky terrain, so proceed with care.
The effort is well worth it: from the top, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of a green forest expanse stretching to the distant Sigiriya Rock. Breathe in the fresh air and soak in the serene beauty of this magical spot. For those seeking solitude away from the crowds, this is the perfect place to connect with nature and history.
Settle into your hotel and take time to relax in preparation for your early hike tomorrow.
Hunumulla - Habarana: (Approx. 3 hours drive)
Day 3: Sigiriya Rock Fortress | Ritigala Archaeological Monastery
Start your day early with a hike to Sigiriya Rock Fortress, also known as Lion Rock. This iconic marvel is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Sri Lanka’s most impressive treasures. Built by King Kashyapa as both a fortress and a royal palace, Sigiriya rises dramatically from the dry plains of the Sigiriya district.
The climb consists of 1,200 steps leading to the flat-topped summit, offering panoramic views of emerald plains and surrounding leafy villages. Along the way, observe the famous Sigiriya Frescoes—vibrant depictions of maidens bearing flowers, set against the backdrop of ancient ruins and jungle. Don’t miss the Mirror Wall, a smoothly glazed structure bearing inscriptions and reflections of ancient visitors inspired by the frescoes.
The journey takes 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on your pace. Tip: Arrive early around 7 a.m. to avoid large crowds and the midday heat. The cooler morning climate makes the climb more comfortable and offers the best lighting for photographs.
Return to your hotel for a leisurely breakfast after this unforgettable experience.
This afternoon, visit the Ritigala Archaeological Monastery, a hidden gem that offers a mix of culture, history, and nature. With its ancient ruins, meditation pathways, and stone-lined reservoirs, Ritigala evokes an air of mystery and discovery. Its serene forest setting creates an experience reminiscent of an Indiana Jones adventure—though a bit more tranquil. Take time to explore the monastery's pathways leading through dense jungle and ancient meditation grounds. Ascend toward the higher sections of the complex to uncover its rich history and connect with the peaceful surroundings. Ritigala offers both cultural depth and a calming forest walk, providing the perfect blend of exploration and reflection.
Return to your hotel afterward and enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure.
After breakfast, drive to Kandy and stop for a village tour in Matale. Set out on a walk through a peaceful village in Matale, away from the main roads and tourist spots. Accompanied by a local villager and your main tour guide (for translation if needed), explore the authentic daily life of this rural community. Walk through paddy fields as villagers tend to their crops, with stunning views of the Knuckles Mountain Range in the distance. Cross a gentle river, feel the cool breeze, and take in the sounds of birds and the scents of natural spices like cinnamon, cloves, pepper, and coffee.
This walk offers insight into local life, culture, and folklore as you connect with the environment and community. At the end of the walk, enjoy a traditional Rice and Curry feast served on lotus or banana leaves. Finish your meal with a selection of traditional sweets for dessert.
Note: To reduce the carbon footprint, this walk will be done without a backup vehicle which can be arranged if necessary.
After your village experience, continue your drive to Kandy and check into your accommodation.
Walk duration: 1-2 hrs
Distance 3-4 km / 2-3 Mi
Habarana - Matale: (Approx. 2 ½ hours drive)
Matale - Kandy: (Approx. 1 hour drive)
After breakfast, visit a homestay in Kandy for a hands-on Sri Lankan cooking experience. The host will welcome you warmly and guide you through this traditional culinary journey. The session begins with an introduction to Sri Lankan spices and techniques for creating the perfect curry. You’ll learn about the role of fired clay pots in enhancing flavors and actively participate in the process—chopping vegetables, mixing spices, and stirring the curry. At the end of the session, enjoy the delicious lunch you've helped prepare, a true reward for your efforts.
Note: This is a group cooking experience. Please inform us in advance if you have any dietary restrictions.
Later, visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic, one of Kandy’s most iconic landmarks and a symbol of Sri Lanka’s history and culture. Located in the heart of the city, this sacred site has been a center of Buddhist worship for centuries. Historically, the possession of the sacred tooth relic symbolized the right to rule the island, and it was the responsibility of the kings to protect it. Today, it remains a revered site for Buddhists and an important cultural landmark.
In the evening, join a local insider from Colombo for a culinary journey through the diverse flavors that define this vibrant city—a true melting pot of cultures. Colombo is a reflection of Sri Lanka’s multicultural heritage, with ethnic groups bringing their distinct food traditions from generations past. This experience offers a unique exploration of the city through its cuisine and local bar culture.
Taste your way through Sri Lanka’s history as you sample dishes such as Vadai, Dosai, and Appam (South Indian-influenced specialties), Samosas and Watalappan (popular Muslim-influenced dishes), and Isso Vadais and Kottu Roti—distinctly Sri Lankan staples. Each dish tells a story, connecting the rich history of the city to its modern-day culinary scene. Your guide knows Colombo’s best spots—ranging from chic, upscale bars to the lively local dive bars known as dodgy bars. Experience Arrack, a traditional local spirit with a bold flavor, and discover the social history and cultural influences shaping Sri Lankan cuisine and nightlife.
This experience offers an informal, behind-the-scenes journey through the streets of Colombo. With no set script and endless opportunities for discovery, it’s a blend of food, culture, and fun. Come with an open mind, a sense of adventure, and an appetite for exploration.
Note: If you have any dietary restrictions or specific dishes you’d like to try, let us know in advance so your host can accommodate your preferences. Be prepared to share food portions and eat with your hands as is the local custom—it's all part of the experience.

Good to ideal period to travel, and many people choose to visit at this time.
Chance for unpredictable weather but with fewer visitors.
This was our first trip to South America and we were a little nervous. But Adventure Life made things so easy! All our questions were answered before we left, and our guide, Vidal, was amazing! He gave us enough space to explore without rushing us along. He also knew where the best picture taking opportunities were, which was great.
The persons I spoke with knew the material. I wont know until I actually take the trip if it was all correct but at this point they were helpful in finding a trip that met my criteria

Creating a checklist was very beneficial and meeting objectives on certain dates helped as well (to keep my trip organized). The Adventure Travel personnel helped keep me on track which is why my trip was so successful. Communication from both travel agencies (AT/MT) was vital.

This is an amazing company to work with. I generally do not use tour companies as I am more of an independent traveller so I was slightly reticent. They were fantastic from the start - 10/10 - from lining up a phone call to discuss requirements, then their ongoing communication in the lead up to the tour and during it (thank you, Franny and Phen). They also explored cost-effective options (eg group transfers). The tour was in Patagonia so Adventure Life organised a pickup from the El Calafate airport to the El Chalten accommodation, two day hikes with a private guide and then to the El Calafate accommodation. A tour coordinator came to the hotel to explain, using the maps, what was involved in each day tour and what should be expected, and patiently answered all questions. The tour guide Marcos was excellent - very professional, knowledgable, communicative and at all times felt very safe with his navigational skills (important in the Patagonian wilderness). On the second day I forgot to take hiking poles so Marcos kindly gave me his. I honestly wouldn't have changed a thing and would happily recommend and book through them again.

Adventure Life has been great throughout my planning process for our up and coming Galapagos cruise. Kevin Moore, in particular, was very helpful in assisting me in making choices and providing me with options. He was also very patient, as I worked through figuring out what I really wanted in this vacation.
