Barbados’ wild and rugged east coast features secluded beaches with red sands, said to have blown across the Atlantic from the Sahara. As the easternmost island of the Caribbean, Barbados feels like it connects the Old World of Africa to the New World. Its capital, Bridgetown, is a city of contrasts. Fun fact: George Washington once stayed here! Trafalgar Square reflects the island’s British heritage, where traditions like cricket and high tea blend with the relaxed, rum-loving island lifestyle.

Day 17: Lisbon, Portugal | Disembark
1 Breakfast
The capital of Portugal since its conquest from the Moors in 1147, Lisbon is a legendary city with over 20 centuries of history. Spreading out along the right bank of the Tagus, its downtown, the Baixa, is located in the 18th-century area around Rossio. The Alfama, one of the oldest quarters in Lisboa, still retains much of its original layout since it largely survived the earthquake of 1755.

The trip might have been the absolute best of our lifetime (thus far). We particularly want to commend our guide Peter in the Guilin area-he was so incredibly attentive, energetic, enthusiastic-and absolutely dedicated to ensuring that our meals were 100% vegetarian.
