Posada del Hidalgo is a beautiful colonial mansion. This attractive structure was built in 1890 by Don Rafael Almada, a wealthy and influential mayor who spent five years on its construction. The wooden trim was made from 285 Canadian red pine beams. Don Rafael's mansion was the largest and most beautiful in El Fuerte. It was built just below the old fort, and has four layers of brick and adobe construction, with iron work brought from Mazatlan.

The Casa Vieja section, the newest addition to the Hotel Posada del Hidalgo, is believed to have been the original site of El Zorro - AKA Don Diego de la Vega's house. It has 12 beautiful rooms with thorough modern amenities in the colonial design, surrounding tropical garden and a beautiful ramada. The newer style rooms face the spacious and breathtaking garden, typical of the old tropical colonial houses.

Accommodations
The Hotel has 54 rooms with three styles. One style is the old high ceilings with 240 Amapa wood beams and two story balconies which are the original bedrooms of the mansion. The newer style rooms face the spacious and breathtaking garden, typical of the old tropical colonial houses. All of the rooms are air-conditioned and have private tile baths.

Colonial Mexico's exquisite charm has been superbly blended with today's modern conveniences to creat the present Posada del Hidalgo Hotel. Be sure to notice the historical documents and artifacts displayed in the hotel as you stroll the lovely tropical gardens. There is an inviting swimming pool, a curio shop and a meeting room. Spa services are also available with a variety of soothing treatments.

Mexican Cuisine
The charming open air restaurant features Mexican cuisine with appealing dishes such as broiled freshwater lobster and freshwater black bass, a popular Anahuacalli tortilla soup and Mexican shish kebab. There is a fine selection of Spanish heritage Mexican table wines as well.

El Zorro Happy Hour is held every evening at the palapa bar by the pool. Hosted by the legendary Zorro, this popular and famous happy hour includes national drinks, margaritas and pina coladas, all to the sound of live music from a regional trio.
