Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi | Karen Blixen Coffee Garden & Cottages

Upon arrival at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you'll be greeted by a representative and given a brief safari briefing before taking you to your hotel, Karen Blixen Coffee Garden & Cottages.

Located in Kenya, along the Nairobi River, the capital city of Nairobi is East Africa's most cosmopolitan city. It’s an excellent starting point for African safari trips around Kenya. Nairobi is the fourth-largest city in Africa and a vibrant and exciting place to visit. There are many fascinating attractions, including the cafe culture, bustling nightlife scene, the National Museum, and the Karen Blixen Museum. Notably, just 20 minutes from the city center, you can find wild lions and buffalo roaming in the world's only urban game reserve. Make sure you don't miss out on the opportunity to visit the elephant orphanage operated by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Day 2-3: Soames Hotel & Jack's Bar, Nanyuki

Start your day with an early breakfast and then head off to Nanyuki. This small equatorial town is a popular thoroughfare for hikers climbing Mount Kenya via the Burguret or Sirimon routes and has a few great restaurants, including Barney’s, known for its fine cuisine, and the Trout Tree, housed inside the trunk of an enormous tree and serving several variations of this freshwater fish. With its strategic location, the town provides stunning views of the mountain. Additionally, the surrounding area is home to numerous reserves, including Mount Kenya National Park, Samburu National Reserve, Sweetwaters Game Reserve, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, and Shaba National Reserve.

Upon arrival, enjoy lunch at The Trout Tree Restaurant, situated around an immense Sacred Fig tree on the banks of the Burguret River, sourced from the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya. The restaurant's surroundings feature cascading icy water and trout-filled pools.

After lunch, continue to the Mount Kenya Safari Club for a tour of the Animal Orphanage. After the tour, it's off to Soames Hotel & Jack's Bar, where you'll check in, freshen up, and prepare for dinner.

On the next day after breakfast, set out with picnic lunch boxes in hand and drive to Ol Pejeta Conservancy for an exciting day of activities. Your itinerary includes thrilling game drives, a visit to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, and an educational stop at the center, where you'll have the unique opportunity to feed 'Baraka,' the gentle blind black rhino.

The conservancy boasts Kenya's largest population of Black Rhinos, along with significant numbers of elephants, cheetahs, lions, leopards, and abundant plains game. It's also a habitat for rare Northern species like Grevy’s Zebra, Jacksons Hartebeest, and Beisa Oryx.

Later in the afternoon, venture on a captivating lion-tracking experience. At 3:30 pm, a Shared Conservancy vehicle pick you up for the tracking adventure, concluding around 5:30 pm. Throughout the tracking, you must remain in the vehicle for safety. Complimentary drinking water, lion ID sheets, and pens are provided, and it's recommended to bring cameras and binoculars for optimal viewing.

After the tour, return to Soames Hotel to freshen up before enjoying a delicious dinner.

Day 4: Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort, Naivasha

Start your day with an early breakfast before descending from the Kenya Highlands into the breathtaking Great Rift Valley, reaching the serene shores of Lake Naivasha, one of Kenya's most picturesque lakes. Enjoy a delightful lunch at Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge.

In the afternoon, embark on a scenic boat ride on Lake Naivasha, offering close encounters with Cormorants, Pink Backed Pelicans, Herons, vibrant Kingfishers, and majestic Fish Eagles. Later, venture to Crescent Island Game Sanctuary, a unique park where you can stroll among the wildlife, including Maasai giraffes, dik-diks, zebras, impalas, and gazelles.

After an enriching tour, return to the lodge for a satisfying dinner.

Day 5: Tipilikwani Mara Camp, Masai Mara

Today, your adventure takes you to the Masai Mara National Reserve.

The Masai Mara, coupled with Tanzania’s Serengeti, constitutes Africa's most renowned wildlife sanctuary, the Masai Mara National Reserve. Its iconic scenery of acacia trees scattered across vast grass plains epitomizes the essence of Africa. Add a Maasai warrior and cattle to the scene, and the quintessential African image is complete. The highlight of the reserve is the annual wildebeest migration, a spectacular event as millions of animals journey across the Serengeti and the Masai Mara in search of greener pastures. This phenomenon is the largest mass movement of land mammals globally. Alongside this, the reserve is home to abundant wildlife, including lions, elephants, giraffes, gazelles, and eland. Activities range from horseback safaris and traditional vehicle excursions to the increasingly popular hot-air balloon rides over the Mara plains.

After breakfast, check out of your lodge and journey to Tipilikwani Camp in the Mara. Upon arrival and check-in, enjoy a delicious lunch before spending the afternoon relaxing in your tent. As the late evening approaches and the temperature cools down, it's time for your first thrilling game-viewing drive in the Maasai Mara Reserve.

Day 6-7: Tipilikwani Mara Camp, Masai Mara | Game Drive

After breakfast, venture on a thrilling drive across the Mara plains in search of the renowned Big Five and other plains game. Alternatively, partake in optional activities available in the Maasai Mara. The early mornings offer prime viewing opportunities as animals are most active before the heat of the day sets in. After a relaxing mid-morning break and lunch, venture back into the reserve for further wildlife sightings. Keep a keen eye out as you aim to check off the remaining animals on your "must-see" list. Don't miss the chance to visit the Mara River and learn about the regular river crossing routes from your guide.

The following day, you can either enjoy the game view in the Reserve or opt for a hot air balloon safari over the Masai Mara for an additional cost. It can be arranged for you along with visits to a local Maasai manyatta (village).

The trip might have been the absolute best of our lifetime (thus far). We particularly want to commend our guide Peter in the Guilin area-he was so incredibly attentive, energetic, enthusiastic-and absolutely dedicated to ensuring that our meals were 100% vegetarian.
