Sport Fishing
  • Sri Lanka is a prime destination for inland and deep-sea fishing. Inland fishing offers the chance to catch sought-after sport fish like Barramundi and Mangrove Jack. Deep-sea fishing, like many sea-based activities in Sri Lanka, is seasonal. The best time to fish along the western and southern coasts is from November to April. Venture into the ocean aboard a purpose-built boat and try trolling for a variety of fish. Dolphin Beach provides all necessary equipment, and fishing tours can be arranged as day trips or part of a longer itinerary.
Cycling
  • Cycling tours at Dolphin Beach Resort make exploring Sri Lanka easy and enjoyable. Guests can borrow bicycles free of charge to wander at their own pace for a carefree and relaxing holiday. Recommended routes are available, or a staff member can accompany you to help you navigate the area. Snacks, drinks, and even a mobile phone for emergencies can be provided upon request.
  • Cycling around Kalpitiya offers a unique way to discover the charms of this fishing and farming village. Once a fortified trading port, the town features historic sites like the Dutch Fort and Old Dutch Church, remnants of its colonial past. Along the way, meet friendly fishermen, learn how they mend nets, and explore palm-thatched villages. Enjoy the beauty of the mangroves, spot herds of wild asses, and take in the scenic twists and turns of Kalpitiya's roads.
  • Cycling provides a refreshing break from ocean-based activities, offering an eco-friendly, healthy, and economical way to experience the area. Take the time to stop and enjoy the surroundings, immersing yourself in the beauty and daily life of this unique region.

    3. Relieves headaches
    4. Enhances circulation
    5. Improves flexibility and range of motion
Yoga
  • Make sure to include yoga at Dolphin Beach Resort on your to-do list. Rejuvenate your body and soul by joining group classes, typically held every morning and evening, or book a private session for a more personalized experience.
  • Yoga offers a path to spiritual insight and tranquility, often focusing on the Hindu concept of divinity, or Brahman. The practice is deeply rooted in meditative traditions across Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism, making it a meaningful way to enhance both physical and mental well-being.
Water Sports
  • Enjoy the perfect water temperature and a variety of exciting water sports along the Indian Ocean. Try jet skiing, sailing a laser, fishing, kayaking, water skiing, or let the kids have fun with a donut ride. There's something for everyone to make the most of your time by the sea.
Kayaking & Standup Paddle Boarding
  • Experience unforgettable kayaking in Sri Lanka with sea kayaks available in 2+1 or single formats, free of charge. Canoes are also available but are not recommended for beginners or sea use. For safety, wearing a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) is mandatory. Kayking tip: always paddle upwind first, so it's easier to return if you get tired.
  • Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) is perfect from November to April when the sea at Alankuda Beach is calm. It's an excellent upper-body workout, and for added excitement, try wave riding in the afternoons when the winds pick up. PFDs are also mandatory and will be provided for both activities.

  • Discover some of the best snorkeling and diving experiences in Sri Lanka with Dolphin Beach Resrot. Just a 30-minute boat ride away, you can explore vibrant coral reefs and diverse marien life, and even encounter rays if you're lucky.

    • Thalawila (St. Anne's) Reef

    • Little Gem
      • An excellent site for beginners and macro photographers, Little Gem offers patches of coral and rock, along with small, eels, and occasional schools of fish. Keep an eye out for the resident octopus and moray eel.

Kitesurfing & Wind Surfing
  • The Ultimate Destination for Kitesurfing in Sri Lanka – Alankuda Beach
For adventure seekers, Kalpitiya is a premier destination for kitesurfing, offering world-class wind and wave conditions from May to October. The reef located 4 km / 2.5 mi offshore creates ideal kiting conditions right in front of the resort. For an added thrill, embark on a downwinder with an instructor to a flat-water training area 20 km / 12.4 mi away.
Kalpitiya’s stunning peninsula is perfect for a kitesurfing adventure. The expansive Puttalam Lagoon features calm waters, and 23 islands, and borders Sri Lanka’s largest wildlife park. With excellent IKO-certified instructors, schools, and equipment, you’ll have everything you need for an unforgettable experience. Don’t miss a kite safari or a trip to Vella Island!
  • Peak kitesurfing season runs from June to August, with consistent wind speeds between 17–26 knots. Located in Sri Lanka’s dry zone, Alankuda Beach enjoys near-perfect weather conditions, with minimal rain to interrupt your adventure.
  • For beginners, head to the flat-water spot in Kandakuliya on Puttalam Lagoon. This area is ideal for learning, with professional instructors guiding you through your first moves and safety protocols.
Whether you’re a seasoned kitesurfer or just starting, Kalpitiya has become a global treasure for kitesurfing enthusiasts, offering unmatched conditions and breathtaking natural beauty.
Dolphin & Whale Watching
  • Kalpitiya is one of the best destinations for dolphin and whale watching, offering incredible encounters with massive pods of dolphins and various species of whales. Among the most sought-after dolphins is the Spinner Dolphin, known for its playful behavior and constant breaching. In Alankuda, you can witness not just hundreds but thousands of Spinner Dolphins, especially when they form a "super pod." These sociable creatures often bow ride and showcase their acrobatics, making for an unforgettable experience as they interact with boats without disturbing their natural behavior.
  • Beyond Spinner Dolphins, you might also spot Bottlenose, Spotted, Striped, Humpback, Risso, and Fraser Dolphins. Spending time with these intelligent and playful mammals can leave a lasting impression, deepening your appreciation for the ocean and the need to protect its incredible inhabitants.
  • The deeper waters off the Alankuda and Kalpitiya coastlines are home to six whale species. Sperm Whales are the most commonly sighted, along with Blue, Minke, Melon-Headed, Pilot, Bryde's, and Dwarf Sperm Whales. Whale watching peaks between November and December and again from March to April, with November and April offering the best opportunities to see whales in larger numbers as they migrate closer to shore.
  • Whether you’re observing dolphins or marveling at the majestic whales, Kalpitiya provides a truly humbling and awe-inspiring experience that connects you to the wonders of marine life.
