Get ready for an exciting adventure in Jordan! Start in Amman’s old city to explore history at the Citadel and the Roman Theatre, two of the important archaeological sites in the city. Don't forget to check out the Jordan Folklore Museum while you're there! Tour through Amman’s back streets and markets with your driver to catch the local vibes and even a view of the beautiful Al-Husseini Mosque. After Amman, head north to Jerash to explore one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the Middle East.
Leave your hotel for Madaba, a town full of history and stunning Byzantine mosaics, including the famous Madaba Map—the oldest mosaic map of the Holy Land. Then, head to Mount Nebo, where Moses is said to have looked across to the Promised Land. Enjoy the incredible views and after that, drive south to Dana Village for a short tour starting at Dana Guesthouse. The trail takes you above the village, through terraced gardens and local craft workshops, where you meet locals, see Ottoman architecture, and explore Dana’s history.
Driving distance from Amman to Madaba takes around 1 hour.
Driving distance from Mount Nebo to Dana takes around 3 hours.
After breakfast, get ready for a hike through Wadi Ghuweir, one of Jordan’s impressive canyons. This 6-8 hour trek goes through a 2 km Siq (gorge) similar to Petra, with natural pools for a quick dip along the way. Some scrambling is required, so prepare to use your upper body strength. The hike starts at Mansoura (reached by jeep from Dana Reserve) and finishes at the Feynan Ecolodge. Wadi Ghweir is a weather-permitting activity. In case of rain, we will offer the Dana to Feynan hike instead.
After the hike, enjoy dinner, a presentation on Feynan activities, and stargazing led by Ecolodge guides, who point out the stars and planets in the night sky.
Distance: ~16 KM.
Difficulty: Intermediate
Time: 6-8 hours
After breakfast, dive into the day’s activities at the Ecolodge. Choose from hiking, biking, local community experiences, or a cooking class. Learn to make authentic Arabic coffee, from roasting and grinding to brewing, alongside a Bedouin family sharing their traditions. Arabic coffee is an essential part of the Bedouin traditions; the Bedouins serve it on almost every occasion including weddings, funerals, or simply when the family gets together in the evening. The Bedouin family also explains the etiquette of serving Arabic coffee and drinking it.
Bake Arbood bread, a simple mix of flour, salt, and water, baked in hot ash, just like Bedouins do in the wild. Arbood is the staple food a Bedouin would have for lunch while shepherding his/her herd of goats in the wilderness.
As evening comes, take a short sunset walk (around 20 to 30 minutes) to a nearby hill for fresh Bedouin tea and stunning views over the Wadi Araba desert. The views are well worth the walk.
A great way to experience the local people of Feynan is to spend a day with a shepherd, herding the family’s goats in the wilderness. Enjoy lunch with the shepherd, featuring homemade Arbood bread cooked over an open fire and sweet Bedouin tea. This experience offers a real look at the ancient Bedouin lifestyle, making it memorable. Female travelers can join local female shepherds. The experience lasts about 7-8 hours in winter and 8-9 hours in summer since shepherds leave early and return near sunset.
Day 7: Feynan Copper Mines Hike and Cooking Class | Petra
After breakfast, get ready for a 3-4 hour hike covering about 6-7 km. Explore the history of how ancient civilizations discovered and mined copper in Feynan, a key supply hub for the Roman Empire. Discover forgotten mine shafts and visit nearby sites to learn how copper was transported and refined, leaving behind large slag formations left from the smelting process, still visible today.
At lunchtime, join local chefs for a fun cooking session and create a three-course vegetarian feast featuring popular Jordanian dishes. If cooking isn't your thing, you can watch a chef prepare a favorite dish while sharing tips. Sample their tasty dishes and learn how to recreate these flavors at home.
After lunch, get transferred to Petra.
Transfer from Feynan to Petra takes around 1 Hour and 30 Min.
Start your day by heading to the Petra visitor center. Enter the city through a 1 km narrow gorge with cliffs rising 80 meters on each side, showcasing stunning rock colors and formations. Petra is vast, filled with rock-cut tombs, the Treasury, Roman-style theaters, temples, altars, and colonnaded streets.
Continue exploring the amphitheater, caves, and tombs before driving to Wadi Rum for a two-hour 4x4 jeep tour. Take in the rugged landscape, climb sand dunes and rock bridges, and follow Lawrence of Arabia's path as the sun sets. Wrap up the day back at camp with Bedouin hospitality.
Drive from Petra onto Wadi Rum takes around 2 Hours.
After breakfast in Wadi Rum, drive to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth, to float and relax. Enjoy the sun and the views while trying out the invigorating Dead sea mud clean your skin.
Driving distance from Wadi Rum to the Dead Sea around 4 hours.
