Do I need a visa to travel to Guatemala?
A visa is not a requirement for those traveling to Guatemala, but your passport must be valid for the entire length of your trip.
Is tipping customary in Guatemala?
You should tip your tour guides, drivers, and anyone who offers you exceptional service, however it is not an expectation in Guatemala and ultimately it is at your discretion how much or if you tip.
What is internet access like in Guatemala?
The more modern hotels and bigger cities will likely have internet access, but boutique hotels and cruise ships tend to not have WiFi. It's not hard to find a cyber café where you can check your email for less than a dollar for an hour, but the speed, quality, and security of these internet cafes can't be guaranteed. It's best to go without the expectation of connecting to the internet.
Can I use my cell phone while in Guatemala?
Guatemala has three cell carriers - Tigo, Claro, and Movistar - all of which offer pre-paid SIM chips which you can put in your unlocked smartphone. However, certain parts of the country might not get a strong signal and a better option might be to just take advantage of any WiFi you come across and otherwise leave the phone in your bag.
Do I need power adapters?
Guatemala has outlets with two flat prongs and 110v power, just like the rest of North America. No adapters or converters are necessary.
What are the toilets like in Guatemala?
In the more developed areas where tourism is popular, toilets are the standards western style flushing toilets, but don't be surprised if you are on a day-tour in a more isolated part of the country and you only have access to a latrine toilet. All bathrooms will have a waste basket where the toilet paper should be disposed of.
Can I drink the water in Guatemala?
You cannot drink the tap water in Guatemala, however there will always be purified or bottled water available for you, and you can use the water to bathe.
Are credit cards accepted in Guatemala? Will I be able to find ATMs?
Most major credit cards will be accepted in Guatemala, but Visa and MasterCard are the most common. Since your Adventure Life vacation is all-inclusive, you won't have to worry about paying for anything out of pocket on your trip, unless you want to purchase alcohol, souvenirs, or anything not listed on the itinerary.
