Galileo arrives at Patmos island in the morning, and you wander around the picturesque port of Skala. If you want to create an unforgettable memory of this island that attracts many discerning travelers every summer, consider joining the optional shore excursion to St John’s Monastery and Chora.
The ship departs for a short drive to Chora and the imposing Monastery of St. John the Theologian, a unique creation that integrates monastic values within a fortification closure. This structure, complete with towers and crenellations, evolves in response to changing political and economic circumstances for over 900 years. The monastery is home to a remarkable collection of manuscripts, icons, and liturgical artwork and objects.
After exploring the monastery, visit Chora, Patmos’ main town, one of the best-preserved and oldest in the Aegean. Whitewashed houses, mansions with antique furniture and embroideries, narrow streets, and lace-like alleys are an absolute must-see. Then return to the main port of Patmos, Skala, for a short orientation walk and some free time before embarking on the boat.
During the onboard lunch, the boat leaves Patmos for the next island experience.
Late afternoon, Galileo arrives at Lipsi island, an insider tip away from the mainstream. For all guests, there is a curated visit to a small, yet beautiful winery situated on a hillside overlooking the port. Sample local wines and cheeses while enjoying a panoramic view of Lipsi and the Aegean sea. In the evening, enjoy an authentic dinner in the Chora. Embarkation occurs after dinner as Galileo leaves Lipsi for the next island exploration.
