Day 2: Arenal Volcano Hike | Arenal Ecotermales Hotspring
In the afternoon, set out on a guided hike through Arenal Volcano National Park. Walk along trails shaped by historic lava flows at the base of the 1,633-meter dormant volcano, known for its near-perfect conical shape. Along the way, observe the regenerating forest and learn from your guide about the volcano’s eruptive past, local geology, and the flora and fauna that have reclaimed the land. The hike typically lasts two to three hours, including travel time, and requires sturdy footwear for uneven terrain.
After the hike, head to EcoTermales Fortuna, a family-run hot springs resort nestled in a lush tropical setting. Soak in mineral-rich pools fed by hyper-thermal magnesia waters of volcanic origin. The naturally balanced levels of calcium, bicarbonates, and magnesium offer therapeutic benefits, helping to relieve muscle tension and inflammation. Wrap up the evening with dinner at the on-site restaurant, where authentic Costa Rican dishes are made with fresh local ingredients.
*Please note that sturdy hiking or tennis shoes are recommended for the tour.
Day 3: Skytrek Zipline & SkyTram | Transfer to Monteverde
Start the morning with a scheduled pick-up for the Sky Tram and Sky Trek experience in the Arenal Rainforest Reserve. Ride the Sky Tram, a gondola that ascends through the rainforest to the highest point in the reserve, where you can take in sweeping views of the forest canopy, Arenal Volcano, and Lake Arenal. At the top, begin the Sky Trek zipline circuit—eight steel cables spanning 1.7 miles, ranging in length from 195 to 2,493 feet and reaching heights of up to 660 feet. Glide from platform to platform with views of the mountains, lake, and forest below. The tour is guided by trained professionals and designed with enhanced safety features, including sturdy metal platforms and mesh-covered rails.
For those who prefer not to zipline, an alternative guided nature walk on the hanging bridges is available. Please notify your Trip Planner at the time of booking to make the necessary arrangements.
After the adventure, you’ll be picked up for your transfer to your hotel in Monteverde.
*Important Note: Minimum age is 5 years (harness permitting), with a maximum weight of 300 lbs (136 kg). Ziplining is not suitable for individuals with health issues such as back, neck, bone, muscle, or heart conditions, recent surgeries, or during pregnancy.
Day 4: Selvatura Hanging Bridges | Cloud forest Tour
Today, you head to Selvatura Park for a guided tour of the Monteverde Hanging Bridges. The experience provides an excellent way to explore the cloud forest’s rich ecosystem from a unique vantage point. Your naturalist guide shares up-to-date information about the area’s biodiversity, offering insights into the flora and fauna, including species endemic to the cloud forest.
The treetop walkways at Selvatura Park are suitable for visitors of all ages and fitness levels. As you cross the 1.9-mile trail, you walk across eight bridges ranging in length from 170 to 560 feet and height from 36 to 180 feet. These bridges offer an unparalleled opportunity to observe the cloud forest canopy and its unique biodiversity. The walkways are designed for safety and comfort, with each bridge holding up to 80 people at a time.
After the tour, you’re transferred back to your hotel.
Today, travel approximately three and a half hours to Playa Hermosa in Guanacaste. True to its name, this stunning beach features clear blue waters and soft, golden sand, making it the perfect spot for unwinding. Enjoy a free afternoon to explore the beach at your own pace and soak in the peaceful surroundings. Playa Hermosa is more of a relaxed getaway than a bustling town, with a selection of hotels, restaurants, and shops scattered along the shore, offering a serene environment to enjoy your evening.
Today, you'll be picked up at your hotel for an exciting tubing experience down the Rio Celeste. The river, with its crystal-clear blue waters, winds through a lush tropical forest, offering the perfect blend of scenic beauty. As you float downstream, enjoy the calm pools for a relaxing break and thrilling rapids for a burst of excitement. Along the way, keep an eye out for wildlife, including monkeys and colorful birds.
The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours, guided by a bilingual expert who ensures your safety with all necessary equipment provided. After the adventure, you'll be transferred back to your hotel. This activity is suitable for families, with a minimum age requirement of 4 years.
*Note: This activity is ideal for families and suitable for children 4 years and older.
Enjoy a day at your leisure. Relax on the beach or seek out more independent adventures. Kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and other water activities are popular along this beach. Head to the nearby Gulf of Papagayo for more sportfishing, snorkeling, or diving at Catalina Island or Bat Island. Within an hour or two of driving, you can visit Rincon de la Vieja National Park or Hacienda Guachipelin for a canopy zip-line tour, horseback riding, or tubing adventure.
