My co-worker Laura Cahill and I spent 10 days exploring the Pacuare River, Monteverde, Arenal Volcano and Manuel Antonio in Costa Rica! We rode in gondolas to reach the tops of the jungle to zipline through the trees, we went water rafting through the rivers, relaxed on the beaches with raccoons and birds. We ended the trip with walking in the Cloudforest in the pouring rain. And most importantly, we saw sloths! Dream come true!
Not many people know this, but my spirit animal is the sloth. Which is pretty ironic given how Type A and full of frenetic energy I am. I adore them -- how they are zen masters and never seem to be afraid of anything and how cute they are. Yes, I think sloths are cute.
More Sloth Goodness! (Kassandra)
So, one of the main aims of our trip was to see a sloth. San Jose? No sloths (obviously). Pacuare River? No sloths. No sloths seen in Arenal or Monteverde either. But then we went to Manuel Antonio. At the National Park, we spotted a sloth through our guide's scope. And I immediately started crying a la Kristen Bell style (without the hysterics). Laura still makes fun of me to this day for crying the first time I saw a sloth. But it changed my life and I'm not ashamed to say that sloths are awesome and I'm so glad I got to see them in Manuel Antonio!
