Discover the mystical beauty and inspiring geology of the Atacama Desert. During your stay, choose from a variety of day tours to explore this incredible region. Take an archaeological tour at the famous Museo Gustavo Le Paige Museum. Explore the Lasana Valley and its preserved petroglyphs. Spend your nights in San Pedro de Atacama, where our lodge provides relaxing accommodations while appreciating the traditional ways of life of the indigenous communities of the area.
Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
This morning you fly to Calama airport, where you are met by people from our lodge and taken to your oasis in the desert - the Awasi lodge. The lodge is situated inside an ancient site that use to house herders. With it's convenient location near town, it is also easy to explore the local church, museums and shops.
These days are for you to arrange activities locally. With a dedicated guide and driver per room and everything included, there is a team of people at the lodge ready to help you plan your stay. Choose from a variety of full or half day activities. You can arrange horseback riding, visit archaeological sites or salt flats. For the more adventurous traveler, there is trekking along the desert or mountain biking rocky ridges. Take in the geysers, go bird watching or relax in the nearby thermal pools. During the evenings, enjoy 5 star dining with famed Chilean chef, Juan Pablo Mardones.
End these evenings with a visit to Awasi Atacama's private astronomical observatory! This facility is located only 5.5 miles (a 15 minute drive) from your hotel and provides the perfect setting for star gazing. Experts in astronomy say that Chile is one of the three best places in the world for observing the galaxy, and we want guests to be able to take full advantage of the unique location under some of the world's clearest skies. Your expert astronomy guide will give a general overview of the universe (size, distance, evolution of stars), as well as point out stars and constellations using a powerful laser torch as you observe with the naked eye. To conclude the night, guests have an opportunity to use an automatic 11-inch telescope to see things not visible otherwise.
*Please note that star gazing is not offered the 6 days before or 2 days after each full moon due to the amount of lunar light in the sky severely limiting the experience. Also subject to weather conditions.
Day 4: Return Home
1 Breakfast

Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!
We were referred by a satisfied client and the booking of the trip was everything we wanted to do, and they listened to the types of hotels, sightseeing, etc. we wanted to do.

Rapa Nui was on my bucket list for a long time so I worried that it would not meet my expectations. Our tour could not have been better. Our guide was knowledgeable and professional with an understanding of the island that made it come alive. I would and have recommended this trip to everyone that will listen.

Mary Curry is the BEST! I have worked with her for multiple family trips for over 10 years, and she is responsive, works within your preferences and budget, has great suggestions and has personal travel experience at many of the locations. We prefer active family vacations and Adventure Life and Mary Curry make sure that is what we get!

My tour operator was helpful. Unfortunately she was unable to get my single-supplement canceled. Not too many tours charge for that anymore and I almost canceled my trip because of that.

Excellent communication and coordination for our proposed trip. It couldn't have been smoother, and any question we did have was rapidly addressed. It has made the whole process nearly seamless.
