Today we toured the Tiahuanaco ruins, about an hour and a half from La Paz. These ruins pre-date the Incas, and could not look more different from those in Machu Picchu. They are set on a high plain (beautiful!), but much of the site remains underground. Some highlights were a large carved stone statue of the god Pachamama, a basin used to study the constellations, and a ''megaphone'' rock. We ate lunch at a hotel in town, and saw lots of traditionally dressed ''chullas'' in their full skirts, petticoats, and bowler hats.
Kassandra is knowledgeable, efficient and very pleasant to work with.
