From Waterfalls to the Sea

For our last adventure at Black Rock Lodge Beth and I summoned the energy to hike to the waterfall upstream from the lodge.  The hike was flat and fast, it only took 30 minutes.  Once at the waterfall we hopped along some of the rocks and savored the scenery one last time.  As our time was running short we hiked quickly back to the lodge with just enough time to clean up before our transfer to Thatch Caye.

The drive was 2.5 hours from Black Rock Lodge to the dock where a boat would pick us up.  We arrived an hour early, believing that we had time to order some simple appetizers from the restaurant at the connecting resort.  Either they were short staffed or on Caribbean time, either way we were a bit crunched for time, but we were able to get our snacks to go.  It was a 30 minute boat ride from the dock to Thatch Caye.  Upon arrival we were greeted by drinks and the local island dogs, which my family was more than happy to dole out belly rubs and scratches to the sandy canines.

Our accommodations at Thatch Caye were perched over the water.  We had a separate cabana from the kids and the air-conditioning was especially well received.  That evening after dinner Beth and I joined a few other visitors with a little karaoke.
