After arriving in Oslo, check in at your designated group hotel near Oslo Airport. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure. All meals today are at your own expense.
This morning, please ensure your cabin luggage has clearly labeled tags with your name and cabin number. Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before you transfer to the airport for your charter flight to Longyearbyen, where you embark on your journey. Keep any valuables or personal items with you throughout the day.
Once in Longyearbyen, you can have the chance to explore the town on a guided excursion. During the drive to Camp Barentz in Advent Valley, your guide will provide insights into the captivating history of Longyearbyen. At Camp Barentz, gather in a large 'lavvo,' a traditional structure typical of northern Norway, for a presentation. You can also interact with friendly huskies and pick up some souvenirs.
Later, you visit the Svalbard Museum in town before heading to the pier for your afternoon embarkation. Once aboard, you can settle into your cabin before attending essential safety briefings. Experience the excitement of departure as you cast off and begin your adventure.
Svalbard offers Arctic wilderness at its best. The members of the experienced Expedition Team, who have made countless journeys to this area, will use their expertise to tailor your day-to-day itinerary, choosing the best options based on the prevailing weather, sea-ice conditions, and the possibility of encounters with wildlife.
Phenomenal fjords, magnificent mountain ranges, and a polar desert rich in fossils set the stage for heroic tales of early exploration. See walruses hauled out on sea ice or beaches. On land, stretch your legs on walks across tundra carpeted in brightly colored wildflowers. Visit towering cliffs noisy with nesting guillemots, puffins, and scree slopes that hold Svalbard’s largest little auk colonies. Most memorable will be encounters with the majestic polar bear on pack ice. Your Expedition Team is just as keen as you are to find them; they will be on constant watch to spot these inspiring creatures.
If you have chosen an optional activity such as kayaking, you can have the opportunity to enjoy that activity when conditions allow. For those enthusiastic to participate in a polar plunge, as soon as conditions are suitable, you can hear the announcement to prepare for an exhilarating dip—a memory you can savor for years to come.
