Take motor pirogues from the ship to Tendaba, a small fishing village with mainly Muslim residents, which is the starting point of your morning optional excursion. The village, located on the South Bank in the Lower River Division, has around 600 inhabitants whose primary occupation is fishing. Walk through to Batelling, a small village at the Kiang West National Park entrance. The park is known for its diverse wildlife, including over 250 species of birds, Guinea baboons, bushbuck, warthogs, Senegal bushbaby, and marsh mongoose. After a stop in Batelling, board an open safari truck to return to Tendaba, passing local villages along the way. In the afternoon, motor pirogues pick you up from the ship for the optional excursion to the Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve. This reserve, located across from Kiang West National Park, features six major creeks that provide excellent birding and boating opportunities. The area has numerous rare and migratory birds, including the Pel’s fishing owl, African fin foot, and brown-necked parrot. Spend the night docked in Tendaba.
