We have committed to sourcing from the following Rainforest Alliance Certified inbound operations in order to promote sustainable tourism: Peru Tours, Ecuador Tours, Guatemala Tours, Mexico Tours, Costa Rica Tours
The Rainforest Alliance provides tourism entrepreneurs and community-based businesses in Latin America with the tools and training they need to become more environmentally and socially sound, and to gain access to and be more competitive in the marketplace, while contributing to the conservation of the local culture and nature. This initiative brings together tour operators who wish to contribute to a greener economy. Rainforest Alliance works with these businesses to develop and implement responsible sourcing programs. Tour operators commit to improving the sustainability of their own practices as well as the sustainability of their suppliers in various tourism destinations. The result: sustainability ripples down the supply chain. Hotels are inspired to operate responsibly, tour operators are motivated to promote sustainable tourism businesses, and consumers are encouraged to visit eco-friendly destinations.
The Rainforest Alliance is a leading international conservation organization that works to conserve biodiversity and help ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices, and consumer behavior. We promote tourism certification programs by publicizing the various programs’ requirements and the benefits of certification. The Rainforest Alliance provides access to an inventory of credible sustainable tourism suppliers in preferred destinations (updated every six months); promotes the suppliers’ sustainability commitments on Rainforest Alliance social media platforms; promotes collaborative marketing opportunities and provides training in improved management practices for tourism operations; provides access to tools and training materials for management, staff and suppliers and includes participating tour operators on its Company Commitments section on the Rainforest Alliance website. Tour operators who sign these cooperative agreements agree to motivate their affiliated business enterprises to conserve biodiversity and reduce tourism’s negative impacts, to keep the Rainforest Alliance informed on their progress toward achieving sustainability goals, to give priority to hotels and lodges that adopt best practices for sustainability in tour packages offered to international tourism wholesalers or travelers, and actively participate in activities that will contribute to the growth of this initiative.
