Arrive to Chengdu, the capital of the Sichuan province. Boasting lovely scenery and mild weather, delicious food and long history make this a popular city to visit. Meet your new guide and enjoy lunch first before heading south to the Wuhou Temple. This centuries-old temple has been built together with other existing structures, and the final existing renovation dates back to 1682. Visit the exhibitions here and learn about the various leaders and their history in the region.
Drive next to Wanjiang Pavilion Park, located along the bank of the Jinjiang River. This park is renowned for its cultural heritage, including the Xue Tao Memorial, which commemorates the once famous poet from the Tang Dynasty. The park is spread over 177 acres and holds close to 150 different species of bamboo. Spread along the river as well are local tea houses and other amusements. Wander the area as you enjoy a favorite pasttime of locals.
This evening, explore Broad & Narrow Alleys, the first tourist attraction in Chengdu and its city's old historical remains. Step into the most local and ancient, yet international and stylish part of Chengdu city!
Today drive 1.5 hours north to Dujiangyan city. This beautiful city is well known for its irrigation system, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to its construction in 256 BC. Explore this irrigation system built on the Min River and learn about the methods used to complete this massive feat. This man-made marvel, created to bring water to the once dry Chengdu Plain, has made this Sichuan region one of the most fertile and productive regions in China to this day. Still in use today, the system irrigates millions of acres of land around the Chengdu Plain. Wander the walkways around the structure and learn about its construction at Erwangmiao Temple.
After lunch, go to nearby Mount Qingcheng, the early residence of one of the Taoist founders and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well. Qingcheng's path is lined with temples and sanctuaries and is a great retreat from the bustling city life. Spend several hours on the tranquil mountain route, enjoying the peace of the natural surroundings. Hike for about 2 to 3 hours today before heading back to the city.
Leave early this morning for a day at the Chengdu Panda Breezing Base, the largest one in the world. The base has a panda museum, adult panda villa, panda kindergarten, and beautiful swan lake. Normally, pandas live alone, but you will have the unique opportunity to see the panda mothers and babies together. You will have plenty of time to observe the creatures up close and take photos of them. As most of the pandas will fall asleep in the afternoon, it is advised to visit them in the morning and enjoy the scenery of the base later.
After your day with the pandas is complete, drive back to Chengdu in time for a Sichuan vegetarian meal this evening, a popular meal choice in this part of China.
