Frequently Asked Questions about Traveling to Cuba

Do I need a visa to travel to Cuba?
Travel to Cuba is heavily regulated by both Cuba and the United States, but we will help you every step of the way, upon request. We'll make sure you understand how to get the necessary permissions for your Cuban vacation.

Is tipping customary in Cuba?
You can leave a few CUC (Cuban Convertible Pesos) for great service with housekeeping, at restaurants, or with tour guides who do an exceptional job. It's not an expectation, but it is always appreciated.

What is internet access like in Cuba?
Do not count on having a reliable internet connection while in Cuba. It's possible that you will find a hotspot, but it's not particularly common. Especially when you are in the more remote parts of the Caribbean waters, it is unlikely that you will even be within range of a signal.

Can I use my cell phone while in Cuba?
While Cuba does have Cubacel as their main cell carrier, you shouldn't rely on a SIM chip from them for high speed internet connections or international calls. It's best to simply leave everything behind and immerse yourself in the vacation.

Do I need power adapters?
Cuba generally uses the same 110v power with two flat prong outlets as the United States.

What are the toilets like in Cuba?
Toilets in Cuba are modern western flushing toilets. But be sure to throw the waste paper in the garbage next to the toilet or the plumbing will clog.

Can I drink the water in Cuba?
While some people say that the water in Cuba is safe to drink, it's better to err on the side of caution and stick to the bottled water that is provided to you.

Are credit cards accepted in Cuba? Will I be able to find ATMs?
Unfortunately, most credit cards will not be accepted in Cuba, so your best option will be to exchange your money for the CUC (Cuban Convertible Peso). It's possible that your cards might be accepted, but you really should not count on that.

Should I purchase travel insurance?
You should definitely have travel insurance, and our partner companies offer some exclusive promotions, so be sure to go to the My Trips page to read more.
