Argentina Travel FAQs

Do I need a visa to travel to Argentina?

All visitors must have a valid passport to enter Argentina and proof of onward passage. Your passport should be valid for at least six months after your departure date. There is no longer an Argentina reciprocity fee charged to citizens from the United States, Canada, or Australia.

For all other nationalities, please consult with your nearest embassy or consulate for information on entry requirements. Entry requirements change with surprising frequency. It is each traveler's responsibility to check with the consulate for the most up-to-date visa information.

Is tipping customary in Argentina?

Although not required, offering a small tip for services is a way to show appreciation for excellent work. In restaurants, you can add a 10% to the service charge that is included; for guides, we recommend between $2-10/ day; drivers can be tipped $1-3/ day.

What is the internet access like in Argentina?

Throughout most of Argentina, you will have access to high speed and/or wireless internet, including in most of the hotels. If you would like to make sure that the hotel where you’d like to stay has internet access, we’d be happy to let you know. In more remote parts of Argentina, like Patagonia and much of the southern wilds, there is not internet access.

Can I use my cell phone while in Argentina?

It all depends on your carrier, but roaming plans tend to be very expensive. If you have a GSM phone with a chip and it is unlocked you can simply buy a pre-paid chip once you arrive from one of the major carriers – Movistar, Nextel, or Personal. However, in some of the more isolated southern regions of the country, like Patagonia, Torres del Paine National Park or Tierra del Fuego, it can be impossible to get a signal.
