Day 1: Katla Ice Cave

The drive commences on the famous Road 1, but soon, a turn leads into what appears to be a no-man's land. Along the way, stunning glaciers and mountains surround you. The super jeep effortlessly tackles the rough and rugged road, adding excitement to the drive.

Stopping near the roots of the Kötlujökull glacier, an otherworldly view awaits. Equipped with crampons and helmets, a short walk to the ice cave's opening follows. Climbing a few steps on ladders to the cave entrance might be necessary. Although the natural ice cave conditions vary, the climb isn't challenging and is suitable for those in average physical condition. Despite its adventurous appearance, it's not demanding at all!

Approaching the cave, beautiful layers of differently colored ice and volcanic ash unfold, painting impressive stripes in the glacier. Your guide shares insights into the glacier's history, the ice cave, and the surrounding area, making the tour educational and exciting.

After exploring the glacier, a walk around to seek accessible smaller ice caves precedes the return to the super truck. The drive back to Vik offers a fantastic experience, especially during wintertime when the sun begins to set behind the mountains, creating a magical wintery sunset. Remember to bring your camera!

If daylight permits (from February 1st to November 15th), several breathtaking waterfalls await your visit. Head to the eerie Skógafoss waterfall in the beautiful Skógar area, where folklore tales abound. Hike up the right side of the waterfall to catch a glimpse of the troll's face, forever petrified while gazing at Skógafoss. Additionally, stop (all year round) at the stunning Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which you can walk behind. Located on the Seljalands River, it originates from the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano!

The minimum age requirement for a Glacier Hike is eight years old.

Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!
