Visit the capital of Guatemala, Guatemala City, well known for its rich Mayan history, many hikes and high altitude locations, and volcanoes. The Metropolitan Cathedral in the Plaza Meyor (Parque Central) is full of religious artifacts and colonial paintings and is a musts-see historical destination. You could also visit the Palacio Nacional de la Cultura (Palacio Verde): the Guatemalan museum of culture which used to house the president now acts as a history museum and an architectural inspiration for the whole city. If you're more interested in participating in the culture than viewing it, consider joining Adventure Life on an authentic Totonicapan Home Stay. Then hike up the Pacaya Volcano, just South of the city. Or, visit Tikal National Park to observe ancient Mayan temples and artifacts. Contact our travel experts to begin planning your ideal trip!
I've just started the process, but Tilly has been very helpful and has a great personality that puts a traveler at ease. I think the paperwork has just begun so I can't give an overall rating of the whole experience. So far, so good.
