Highlights
Discover the dramatic scenery and walrus colonies of Prins Karls Forland, capturing great shots of walruses
Explore the south coast of Spitsbergen, sailing via Freemansund and scouting for wildlife along the way
Experience the raw nature of the Arctic as you navigate between the coast and the sea ice, visiting glaciers and partaking in wilderness hikes
Explore Longyearbyen, the most northerly town on earth and embark on an expedition to the far northeast
Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
Your expedition departs from Longyearbyen, the most northerly town on earth. Leave the port late in the afternoon, and for the next ten days, say goodbye to civilization as you sail to the far northeast. Whales are active this time of year and scour the horizon for photography opportunities as you flow through Isfjord. This expedition aims to spend lots of time exploring nature, scenery, wildlife, and glaciers.
Day 2: West Spitsbergen | Prins Karls Forland Area
Daily, the team will launch the zodiacs to go exploring. During September, the team will undertake many zodiac cruises and shore landings to open up different photography opportunities. On the first morning, sail alongside Prins Karls Forland, an island known for its dramatic scenery and walrus colonies. If the conditions allow, you can land at a walrus colony, offering some great shots of walruses. As you head north, visit some of Svalbard’s glaciers bathed in golden light while keeping a good lookout for polar bears that roam the shores.
Over the next few days, navigate between the coast and the sea ice that extends to the North Pole. Count on regular shore landings and zodiac tours to visit different natural and historical sites, including glaciers, partake in wilderness hikes, and fully immerse yourselves in the raw nature of the Arctic.
Every day, explore deeper into the wilderness Svalbard has to offer. Under the guidance of your expedition leader, work with the weather and sea ice conditions to show you the best that the northwest coast has to offer.
If the sea ice grants passage, aim to head east towards the Hinlopen Strait area and venture deeper into a vast world of ice and cliffs. While attempting this, reach a new higher latitude for the voyage, crossing the 80-degree north parallel. The days will be long and complemented with action, zodiac cruises, and the search for wildlife.
As you explore east of Svalbard, aim to visit the meltwater waterfalls pouring from the edge of the Austfonna Ice Cap, taking the time to cruise alongside the breathtaking natural spectacle.
The return route is highly dependent on the ice and weather aspects. If conditions allow, you may follow the compass south and explore the region along the south coast of Spitsbergen, sailing via Freemansund. Or, you should head back north and west and cruise the ice edge while exploring sites and scouting for wildlife.

This was my first experience with Adventure Life - and I couldn't have been more pleased with the trip. The guides and local staff in both Buenos Aires and Uruguay were terrific - extremely helpful and accommodating. I really enjoyed meeting the friendly staff in Buenos Aires in person (I left my bags with them for the afternoon).

We had an excellent experience with Adventure Life. This was our second trip with them and we have a third in process. Our trip to Vietnam and Asia were well planned, great accommodations and very good guides. Everything went smoothly.

We loved the experience of travelling on a small boat with 28 other passengers. The itinerary was excellent, usually including two stops per day at different Croatian islands and only 2-3 hours of sailing. Each of the stops were beautiful; the islands were all unique and memorable and no two stops were the same.

Just as she did last time we booked with Adventure Life, Franny really listened to what we wanted for our trip and went the extra mile to help us build the perfect itinerary.
